Hi,
I'm researching which drives to go with. I've listed a few vendors (companies that are listed in Digi's developer Catalog and a couple of online resellers) below and would like to know what people are using. Please add your vote below. I have used and loved the OWC Mercury Elite drives for years now as well as recommending them to about 20 people. I, nor anyone else has ever reported a single problem. Call it luck, I dunno. I know the enclosures are kind of generic, but I love the size of them, the prices are great, and again, Ive been using them for about 5 years (about 15 drives in all) and never a hiccup. Gotta love the blue activity light as well.
I have also used the Granite Digital ones which are super rugged and reliable but are too bulky for my needs. Finally, I would stay away from any drives from LaCie. I have seen the most problems with these. The firewire ports are always getting loose and losing connection. And all their consumer drives, like the pocket drive, are always breaking down on clients who bring them in. But hey, alot of people also seem to have success with them so it could just be bad luck. But Ive seen it with LaCie more than any other drive. Their CDR drives are great tho. go figure MT

I agree with Mt.Everest above about the LaCie drives - had quite a few problems with them but had none in a year or so with the V2s... |

Been using Granite Digital FW400 drives AND their Firevue cables for a couple years now... Approx. 8 drives across a handful of albums & zero problems. Whatever brand you go with, invest a little more & buy Disk Warrior to keep all your drives healthy!!
Warmest Regards, Brian |
