Default Just got Mix system, a few questions.......

Hi guys.
I got a mix core and 888/24 today. All good.

Can you tell me, can I run two 888/24 interfaces by using a Y cable or do I need to get a farm card to add another interface?

I'm interested in using my Yamaha AW4416 for: A, it's converters (8 channels) and B, mixing. Basically I'm convinced the AW4416 will sound better than the 888/24. Please tell me if you disagree.
If I do go down this road can you tell me about word clock? I've never used it before other than adat which all worked ok but the 888/24 has a funny connector for word clock as does the the AW4416. I understand I can connect the two together with the right cable (?) but what if I have a 2nd 888/24. How do I connect the AW4416 word clock to two 888/24?

So I'm thinking Aw4416 connects to the first 888/24 via AES and back again. Analog desk connects to 2nd 888/24 and back to Aw4416 via AES. This allows first 8 channels to use the Aw4416 converters and then I have the other 888/24 as a back up should I need to record anymore than 8 tracks. Then I can run 16 AES channels back to the Aw4416 for mixing. Should I need more tracks for a mix I can use the Aw4416 available 16 tracks via its internal hard disc recording. So a total of 32 mixing channels possible.

Idealy it would be easier to keep everything in pro tools but I'm thinking by using the Aw4416 I shall have a significant sonic improvment. What ya reckon?

You can clock the 888/24 to its Digital Input. Otherwise it will only clock to the "slave clock in" which is Digi's 256x Super Clock. The best would be to buy a USD which offers multiple sync inputs, and generates Super Clock for your interfaces. USD also supports time code read/generate. Keep an eye out for a Mix Farm as well if you can afford it, to run more DSP. Of course you can only go as high as Pro Tools 6.4.1 with the Mix system.
