Track levels in session keep changing when the session is re-opened.
I am losing my mind over this, I am running a Mix ++ system with 3 888's all synced to an aardync wordclock on a G4 1.25 ghz mac with 2 gig of ram. I am using pro-tools 6.4.1 on osx 10.3.9 and a 64 bit pci expansion bay to hold the cards. on this particular session I am using some UAD powered plugs with a UAD-1 but this issue is occuring to tracks that don't have UAD plugs as well.
I am mixing this session ITB to the SAME 2 outputs on my 888 's every time so I think I have eliminated that possibility. I will sit down for a couple hours refining my mix making subtle adjustments here and there, mostly level changes to get things to sit right, some compression, adjust some send timing etc etc. I get a mix that sounds and feels like it is approaching it's final stages so I bounce it down and then burn a cd to listen to in the car (like most of us do at this stage, right?) I make some notes to take back with me to the session, feeling excited that I am close to a "final" mix and when I open the session I can't believe my ears. Yes I save often and always when I close Pro Tools. so it is not that my changes arent being saved. .in fact I can see the volume and automation tweaks are still right where I left them. When I go back to the session some track levels are just off, some a little off some are WAY off. I fixed a harpsichord to sit in the mix with the guitar and when I re-open the session it sounds like a harpsichord solo it's so far on top of the mix. One time some tom fills are way too punchy and in your face the next I can't even hear them. Sometimes it's the hat thats too loud sometimes it's the ride. Sometimes the kick snare combo going through a drum buss with compression are flat out rocking and sometimes they are just falling flat. What could possibly be causing my track levels to bounce around like this? I mean I guess I could be going crazy and maybe it is just my ears, maybe I should quit...been doing it too long I guess. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you resolve it? Thanx in advance, Jack |

Re: Track levels in session keep changing when the session is re-opened.
This is an old bug fixed in 2004. You must run 6.4.1cs4 - update and your problem will be gone. it is in the cs downloads section here. Best W
