Default CPU Power spikes with PT 7

Hello DUC

Have searched on this problem and tried some fix's to no avail....

I open a session from a freshly booted pc and everthing is swimming for about 10 minutes, then I start getting power spikes on my system usage indicator. These spikes cause the session to stop and display the usual 'try increasing cpu blah blah) The offending sessions have lots of plugs BUT never go over the half way point on the indicator during normal playback(except when they spike!!!)

Plugs I run are ...Pultic (tried putting a dither infront of this)
Waves IR1
Waves Rverb
Waves EQ
L2
Digidesign Compressor

Have tried dither, new waveshell from waves, installing cs5 and drinking lots of beer. None of the above seem to help matters.

Help!

Paul.

Default Re: CPU Power spikes with PT 7

Try this,
As soon as you open the session, go in and change the buffer size to anything other than what it is set to, click OK. Then go back in and change it back to what it was, hit OK. I have to do this each time in order for my processor not to spike and I am running one hell of a machine. 4400x2, 2 gb Ram, blah blah blah......

Also, open up your system usage as soon as you open protools and see what it does when you first open a session. Then watch the CPU meter when you follow the above steps. You will see, that is goes down by 50% or so, when you manually change the buffer settings.

I think one of the issues here is that most of us adjust those buffer settings all the time while tracking and mixing, therfore, we dont notice this as much as those who try and leave them in the same setting each time.

Try this stuff and let us know.
