Default Sorry guys...how do I VSO a track?

I want to slightly increase the speed of my file...the song drags a little too much. I can do this somehow with the Sync I/O, can't I?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

if you have a sync i/o you can hit apple-2 and set the system to clock to sync i/o and then internal/vso and a slider will go from gray'd out to useable.

if you don't have a sync i/o you could use elastic audio...

I usually use Pitch'nTime for this, one track at a time. Do a trial on a stereo mix to choose the tempo first. I use Elastic Audio for editing, but it might take a bunch longer than P'nT for this kind of job, esp. if you use x-form. Best...H

This has always killed me since day 1. In the analog days when you went to do a piano overdub at a different studio and the piano was slightly sharp or flat to the track, there was vari-speed. Then along comes the DAW and you have to buy a $1000 widget just to vari-speed the track. Even ADAT's had this feature... You can always clock your rig to an ADAT!

I would love to see vari-speed built into the next software.

I haven't tried it, but how about printing the mix and then using Elastic Audio in "varispeed" mode on the print (and then "committing" at some point)? Anyone got any opinions about the sound quality of doing this? Or maybe even doing it on the whole multitrack, if you're feeling brave....

A less expensive solution that will also probably sound better and take less time would be to just recut the track at the right tempo.

Or rent your local pro recording studio and drop the track onto an analog tape deck and vari-speed it back into Pro Tools. Shouldn't take an hour...

What's a brick 'n mortar "Pro" studio getting these days as an hourly rate... $35 in LA, $50 in NYC, $300 in Chicago...?

Wow. Which tape-based studio in LA charges $35/hr, and $50/hr in NY?

Where do you live? Those numbers don't sound right at all.

here is a quick, easy, and free option...

consolidate all tracks from start to end.

use the FREE Pitch Shift AudioSuite plug-in that comes with ProTools. Just uncheck the time-correction check mark and pick your speed adjustment.

This will achive the exact same thing as vari-speed with no digital artifacts. Plus the files are printed in the session.

What a load of [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ing horseshiz. This sort of banal statement can only come from someone who hasn't got a clue. What's wrong with varispeed for chrissakes? People have been doing it since 1965.
