Default G5 Track Count

Hey Digi or anyone who might know.
I know 32 audio tracks is max at the moment.
With the intro of th G5, will we be able to achieve higher track counts like, 64 tracks. 128 tracks? Ect.

Any thoughts.

You may, but realize the notion behind "LE" is to make it so you don't have all that capability... it leaves you wanting for more... and conveniently, Digi is in business accordingly.

Now, a G5 with some HD must surely do pretty well...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">yeah and we gave up THAT battle years ago.

they'd make a killing if they would let themselves compete with other software packages... full blown pro tools software.. ASIO, WDM (or whatever), Direct i/o, and Core audio compatible, audio units, MAS, Logic, and vst, unlimited tracks and unlimited plug in's limited only by processing.

I know it's a long shot but think logic with a PT's GUI and file format .

$1000 dollars.. I'll pay it. but it's gotta be pro tools.

sucks dont it?

Well, think of making one minute long crossfades over 128 tracks simultaneously...Audiosuite-processing a 120-minute stereo file with a Waves L2...And you can use RTAS plug-ins on disk tracks with TDM. So, there ARE uses for a faster processor even on a TDM-system.

But sure, I had to do some testing on a TDM Mix++++ system (B&W G3 350mhz) yesterday, again I was amazad that the CPU meter didn't indicate ANY load while I was recording and playing back some 48 tracks...It eventually stumbled when I made crossfades over all of the 48 tracks, but the error was about disk being too slow, not about CPU.

But using Logic I can kill the CPU by a few Kontakt voices and one Trueverb...I should probably look into the Emagic ESB-system to integrate Logic's native processing with the TDM cards.

I would have to agree that a G5 hooked up to a TDM system would pretty much be useless. You would never get a chance to use all of the G5's capabilities. I've used a TDM on a G3 and I could never get the CPU meter to show anything. I've also used it on a G4. Nothing on the meter there either. If you've got the money, then what the hell. Why not? Basically to say that mine is bigger than yours.

If I had the money for a G-5 I'd be thinking of alot of other things to spend money onmore wisely if I was running TDM.....
