APSLive - Better Sound Card Suggestions?
I got PTF up and running.....played with it a couple of weeks or so, and loved it. I read all the good stuff about the APSLive drivers, loaded them per instructions, got it up, then got the dreaded DAE 6008 error message when trying to open PTF.
I deleted the APSlive, tried to reinstall the Creative drivers and got a "not enough space on the designated drive" message. I've got 27GB on the designated drive. I guess I should have left well enough alone. "IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT". Now I'm ready to chunk the SB Live and get an affordable 24 bit card or maybe a USB interface. My gear: MSI 6337LE M/B w/intel 815 chipset Celeron 1.1ghz 256mb ram Windows 98SE SB Live CT4620 with a Live Drive I've read of some good and bad experiences with different cards & PTF compatibility and don't know what to buy. I can't afford trial & error. Anyone have success with a similar setup? If so, what card or USB interface? |

Re: APSLive - Better Sound Card Suggestions?
I got PTF to successfully run the demo, learn editing and do a few head on recordings on a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It would not run at all on my Turtle Beach Montego II though. I did not test it enough to say that it was a complete success. It encouraged me and taught me enough to buy a used Audiomedia III on Ebay and then buy PTLE 5.1.1 from Digi for $50.00. I haven't made the move from Win98 to XP yet. I am running a poor, tired old workhorse:
PIII 450 Win98 SE 128 Meg Ram WD 40 gig HD for audio ancient 2.5 gig HD for system files I am recording acoustic singer/songwriter stuff with track counts usually around 6 to 9 and PTLE 5.1.1 has been rock solid reliable. No problems at all! Total cost to get into PTLE: ~ $220.00 I am looking at the possibility of loading PTF on a laptop, but I haven't looked into it too much yet. I am determined to make PTF work to give me a second recording system to set up at a friend's house and shuttle files back and forth. I probably will put the Santa Cruz in my friend's desktop. If I have success I will let you know. Hope this helps. If you have success let me know. Outdated OS or not, PTF is a pretty amazing giveaway. Bilco |

Re: APSLive - Better Sound Card Suggestions?
in my opinion, if you're willing to buy a USB interface of some sort, you may want to look into ProTools LE. Its a great program, generally stable(waaaay more so than PTF) and is pretty cheap too. The Mbox pre's are nice, and its USB. thats what i would suggest doing.
