Default LE's Bounce to disk vs. Reaper Render to disk

Since I'm currently dead in the water with no Pro Tools LE- I have a new Windows 7 64 bit machine... I've been using Reaper to get a few recording projects out the door.

Why is the render to disk so much faster in Reaper? A 2 minute song takes about 30 seconds to bounce. Pro Tools bounce to disk takes the entire duration of the song.

What gives?

im going to respond before someone else says something sarcastic. basically, pro tools has never had a render function that was faster than real time (1x.) CD burning software and many other DAW's out there have written their algorithms to do so. It's just not something digi has done for the users. No one knows if they will, but it's been made awful clear that this is extremely important to users.

I always figured PT has to take the entire duration of the song to BTD because of the RTAS platform; that everything had to play out normally or else there would be pops and errors and such.

Not just bounce to disk, but after the bounce you can directly import the results of the files that were bounced back into your current session, which makes verification and comparison a breeze!

One reason...From what I understand HD is prevented from doing because of hardware limitations-So LE can't do it either even though its not bound by the same limitations. Other reason...PT was designed for studio use. When it was designed most studios were still using a lot outboard gear. You can't render faster than real time through outboard gear.

That is why many daws have both options: real time and non real time.

It's always been real time because of instantiation of hardware inserts.

Actually it did back before RTAS. In practice it isn't that big of a deal.

Just assign the mix to a buss, route the audio back around into a track and record each section as you listen and tweak. Then simply consolidate the audio in that track and there's your rendered audio. This has the added advantage of being able to record into different playlists and then comp your mixes.
