Not without a digi interface as well. Don't see whay you'd want to do that though... Unless you already own one and need a lot more inputs.

I don't mean to offend, but, why are you asking that question?
How can you not know the answer?
If there is one thing that is certain about Digidesign software, it is that it will not work with any other audio interface.
i ask in all honesty.
Does their literature suggest otherwise?

This is an LE forum, which means there may be some non-pros in here, and it's a legit question.

Animal, the short answer to your question is "no." Only Digi interfaces with Pro Tools, and only one LE interface can be used at a time, so no Mbox with Digi 002, etc. But you *can* add more inputs through 3rd party hardware, such as a Presonus Digimax connected to a Digi 002 rack via ADAT lightpipe.

Digidesign has a proprietary attitude about their hardware. They'll tell you they don't sell audio "components," they sell "systems." I think they maintain this proprietary attitude partly because they can ensure their software and hardware work well together, and partly because they're greedy.

Hope this helps.

John

Only through the Optical or SPDIF connections.
I use a MOTU 828MKII connected to my DIGI RACK 002 via the optical inputs.
Why, more inputs of course. I can leave all my synths plugged in all the time and just use the 828 to input signal into ProTools. And yes, I also use 2 MTPAV's for midi with protools. Digi doesnt care about midi at all, only their audio I/O boxes.

Can you then just switch to DP or Logic and use the 828 as your primary i/o without changing any cabling?

Also, how does the 828 sound compared to the 002R?

ANSWER: Yes, and if the other synths are connected to the DIGI that you need, all you have to do is open up ProTools and create aux input tracks and route them out the Optical outs into the MOTU

Also, how does the 828 sound compared to the 002R?

ANSWER: To my ears, the 828MKII has a little more sheen in the high mids but thats about it. Pretty identical if you ask me. No audible significance.

I have OPTICAL connections in both directions so there is no changing connections at all. Sweet setup if you ask me.
