Re: Carbon with Monterey
that's good news even if just a marginal improvement...
I think I am seeing slightly longer session loading times with Monterey, though also updated Pro Tools to 2022.7 (from 2022.5). This is and has been a general weak point with Pro Tools when working with large sessions, compared to say Logic for example where sessions load much faster. I've got a feeling DSP plugins take even longer to instantiate. Might be due to the AAX plugin standard, though this is hard to verify as no other DAW uses AAX afaik. |

Re: Carbon with Monterey
Yes, agreed that latest versions of PT seem to take longer to load sessions. I mainly use my MBP M1 Max and that has always been on Monterey - and each new version of PT seems to load sessions in a different time, and it also takes ages just to load the core programme. Reaper fires up in about 3 seconds in comparison.
I think PT loads a huge amount of stuff into memory, but even then it seems to do it in a very inefficient way. Eucon also takes about 30 seconds to load. I've no idea how they coded it, but it feels like it's all single-threaded stuff from the 1990's to me. Maybe there's some magic going on that we just don't understand. Dominic
