Default Sharing HDD with Windows & Mac

Hiya,
I use PT LE 6.4 at home with a Digi001 and WinXP. Recently, I purchased a 300GB external firewire drive from Seagate. When I got to the recording studio to record vocals, the Mac computer gave a message that the drive was locked. After doing some reasearch it seems that the drive needs to be formatted in the FAT32 file format, but it has limitations. So basically my question is, are there any users who use external HDDs with both Mac and WinXP who could offer some tips to make transporting my sessions between Windows and Macs as transparent as possible? I looked at the program called MacOpener, would that allow to me to write to my external HDD without a problem on both computers? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

I use a WD 160 Gb firewire HD on a mac and a pc. Works well for me. I formated the drive on the mac in 5 MS-DOS parts. I hope this helps you.

It is apparently possible to use MacDrive from Mediafour directly with older versions of Pro Tools for Windows to directly access a mac formatted drive, but not unfortunately with the latest versions. I cannot confirm this, as I haven't tried it; I'm just passing along the
wise words from the venerable Rail Jon Rogut.
