Default Wiring for unbalanced line inputs / outputs

Hi all,

Just waiting on my new Carbon to arrive, and getting cabling sorted out. I can't find any reference in the manual, so would welcome a steer on what is the correct wiring approach to connect the balanced line in / outs on Carbon to unbalanced equipment?

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the community.

If the manual does not mention anything about this, like for example 20yr old DigiDesign 192 mentions you should not ground the extra pin, you solder the balanced connector cold pin (number three on xlr) to ground.

Thanks! I have indeed got a number of cables made up as you describe, but was concerned by the warnings on older Avid interfaces. Given there's no big warning about this, seems like a go-er... (what can possibly go wrong???).

Given that the Mon outs are 1/4" which allows for either TRS or TS, it may very well be the case that the DB25 outs are driven the same meaning it won't matter one way or the other whether pin 3 is left floating or terminated to ground.

Not sure if this is answering the OP question BUT as far as the DB 25 there is a chart in the manual page 52
