Default PT 7.4 - second first impressions...

After months with PT8, I rebooted to my tiger/7.4 drive to archive some older projects. My impressions after being away for a while were interesting...

I've come to the conclusion that I REALLY prefer the mix window in 7.4. Great color scheme with just the right control over brightness. I think it's MUCH cleaner looking and you can fit more into the same amount of screen real estate.

Strangely enough though, overall I think I prefer the edit window in PT8. The waveforms look much better IMO and with the exception of the total waste of space that is the upper toolbars, I really like the new look.

I'm not looking to rekindle any old arguments or bring on a stampede of oddly colored african mammals, just posting my thoughts after some time away...

Those of you who are now fully committed to working in PT8, have you spent any time going back to 7.4 and if so, what where your new first impressions?

Hi Zak,
for me it's completely opposite. I still work in 7.4 HD and use PT 8 only occasionally on my LE-setup.
I like the better structure of the PT 8 mix window. In the edit window of PT 8 it's sometimes hard for me to see what's selected.

Kind regards

Mark

I would also agree with that. I'm not sure what's changed in that regard but depending on the color of the track it can be hard to tell. I wonder if we could keep the look of the waveforms but revert back to the 7.4 colors...?

Good grief!!!

You would have thought they would have figured this out after having the same problems with highlighted MIDI notes

Well, back from the bad smell of some funny animal to Pro Tools:
Many things depend on how you use PT. I do all my MIDI work in Logic and use Pro Tools as the recorder and the mixer. So to me the biggest invention in the Pro Tools development was Elastic Time with 7.4. That's why PT 8 is not so tempting.
And it would take some time to upgrade my Mac to work with PT 8. I have to update Mac OS, the plug-ins and it would take at least one or two days. And that's time I can make money to afford a living...

Kind regards

Mark

Two days might be a bit conservative...that's assuming everything plays nice together.

I waited quite a while for the same reasons...
