Default Audio dropouts all the time

Hello,

I was a Pro Tools user for a long time and now installed the test version again to bounce some old vocals from a few months ago. The problem is, I have audio dropouts all the time. Never experienced this before. The vocal tracks almost sound like a censored version. Every few seconds there is a word or sentence missing. (Other parts of the song every time I playback, not always the same parts missing) Its with playback and also when I bounce. I tried it with different buffer size and cache size, makes no difference.

Has anybody an idea?
I work on a imac pro with Mac Sierra.

Many thanks!

Hi, a little more info is needed here. Please take a look at the Help Us Help You page that is linked to the forum header.

While we wait for more info, here are a couple of things to check:
1-What happens if you bypass all plugins on the vocal track?(if it sounds fine, then its a plugin causing the dropout. Maybe running in a demo mode)
2-is all audio dropping out, or just a single track? If its all audio, bypass all plugins on any master and/or mix bus routing(again, suspect a plugin)
3-what is your playback buffer set to? If its low, bump it up to 1024 and see if that alters things.
4-is the dropout consistent or random?(consistent meaning its always the same spot, the same word, etc).

Had the same issue. Go to apple system pref/ date&time. Uncheck the automatically detect time using current location and the same with time zone on the 2nd tab. As unrelated as this seems, since I did that I haven't had any more audio drop outs.

Amazingly yes lol. I googled it and the results came up about the date and time. I did it and haven't had one dropout since. Was something about the t2 chip checking the network connection blah blah blah. All I cared was that it worked. It was happening across all audio coming from my computer. Go figure. I was mad at PT until it came up being an apple bug

I have the exact same problem, but the automatic time settings didn't work for me, unfortunately.

I disabled all plugins in the session, row by row. Once the problem went away, I knew it was a plugin, and I knew what insert row it was in. So I went down that row disabling plugins one by one until I found what plugin it was. Turns out I forgot to activate Ozone 9, that's all.

Hope this helps someone else!

YOU SIR, ARE A GENIUS. Lord that was absolutely killing me. Was about to mess with Apple date & time, then reading that above I realized it was Ozone 9 - new computer, it hadn't Authorized yet. WOW. Thanks!

Just wanted to add in a thanks as well as a comment, I experienced the same thing, and it was due to an iLok being plugged in, but was not connected. I had an insert plugin for iZotope declick, and the same happened. Fixed connection and re-opened and we are good to go! Thanks :)

LOL so random, and to always trip on same things that get us all.

I almost went into the registry to simply delete the entire clock on PC

Thanks you all - for all else, especially when going into a session from like 10 years ago in this case of mine... PLUGINS, IN DEMO MODE... Not sure why.

I hadn't disabled everything.
