Default spdif what are the advantages?

I have a 002 Rack, Triton Rack, Pod xt pro, and a Motif es Rack. The motif has Toslink optical spdif in and out- Also, the Triton rack, and the Pod has the coaxial spdif.

I'm assuming I can't use all of them in conjuction with the 002 right? Is there any advantage in using the spdif over signal inputs to the 002? Should I just stick with all signal or, is the sdif worth messing with? Is there an alternative in hooking them up?

I'm simply interested in cleaning up the setup and using it its maximum potential. So many cables!

Thanks
Johnny

Advantages:
1. 1 cable does stereo
2. All the data remains in the digital domain - meaning 100% transfer of the sound as it is.

You can use either the optical or coax inputs as SPDIF, but you can't make them both SPDIF simultaneously within the PTLE software. You could could conceivably use the optical and coax inputs simultaneously with SPDIF-compatible instruments, but you would need a SPDIF-to-ADAT converter for the optical input. Many companies make a device that will do this, and some are relatively inexpensive.

There are many people who use all 18 inputs simultaneously, with 8 analog inputs, 8 ADAT inputs, and 2 SPDIF coax inputs. As long as they are all clocked from a common source (either as PTLE as the master, or PT the slave with a common clock driving all input devices), there is no problem with doing so.
