Default CoreAudio-Sample rate automatically switch to 44.1

I'm using:

PowerMac G4
Dual 1.25 GHz processors
OSX 10.3.4

Pro Tools 6.2.3

888 24 I/O

USD Sync

I am trying to use the CoreAudio application with Quicktime and Soundminer. We are a post facility, so all of our audio files are 48 kHz. The 888 automatically switches to 44.1 kHz whenever I try to use it to listen to 48kHz files. I go into CoreAudio HW Setup, and manually switch the 888 to 48kHz, but as soon as I launch Quicktime or Soundminer, the 888 automatically switches to 44.1 kHz.

Any suggestions?
