Unhappy Hearing Audio Playback From dock speakers or headphones

hello i was wondering if you need monitors to hear sound out of pro tools because i have the right audio driver setup but i cant hear anything on protools 10 demo or pro tools se that i got with my c400? help please! i use a hp laptop

If the C400 is the selected audio engine(in Pro Tools) then you need speakers or headphones hooked up to the C400. Pro Tools(on Windows anyway) needs to use the same audio engine for inputs AND outputs. Also, since most computer speakers are awful(relatively speaking), I recommend a modest pair or powered speakers like KRK Rokit6 or similar.

actually i still dont hear playback and i believe i have the right I/O. im using Pro tools MP9

There's a difference between...."I believe" and " DO", so can you grab a screen shot showing your IO setup(input tab)? Using the Print Screen function, paste it from the clipboard to any photo editing software, save as a jpeg, upload it to some free photo sharing site( I use photobucket) and past the link in this thread. That way one of us can go view it and maybe spot what issue is keeping you from hearing correctly?
