Default Getting Crazy error

I am continuing to get an error when I launch Pro Tools 9/create a new session. It says:

Could not create a new document because Assertion in "/Volumes/Development/ws.Preston/AlturaPorts/DFW/MacBuild/../Views/UMenu.MacOS.mm", line 1346.

Anyone else receiving this message, or able to tell me what it means/how to fix?

Running on early 08 Macbook Pro, Snow Leopard 10.6.5, dual 2.5 ghz, 4 gig ram.

Thanks folks.

(my apologies if this has been addressed in another thread)

I noticed that you're using OSX 10.6.5, which is not qualified by Avid yet. Although some users seem to be running fine on that version, it's still relatively new and untested so you never know what kind of unexplained errors could come up. I would suggest trashing preferences ect. using the included trouble shooting utility that came with Pro Tools. You may also want to consider going back to 10.6.4 to see if that resolves your issue.

Hi,
I've seen this error. What kind of sound card are you using? Is it a apple internal sound card? If you launch Pro Tools, go to setup, playback engine, what is the playback engine?
I tried to install PT 9 on a hackintosh and the driver for the sound card was hacked to work on OSx. This hack made the sound card not work correctly with core audio and in turn, Pro Tools.
Hope this helps,
Brandon

Talking Re: Getting Crazy error

Drumster- thanks for your input/thoughts. I had actually tried that prior to posting this thread- I should have mentioned that.

However, Brandon, your comment worked. When I went to playback engine, it was on Soundflower 2 Ch (I still am not positive what that is/where it comes from- any thoughts?) When I changed it to built in output, I was able to create a new session (previously creating new session warranted that dialogue).

Thanks so much people!

And an FYI- it is an early 2008 Macbook Pro, 2.5 Ghz core 2 duo, with 4 gigs of Ram. I have a built in sound card, and a presonus firestudio project (as well as a couple other miscellaneous input/output devices.. but for all intents and purposes those are the two i will use).

Are you running any Rogue Amoeba Software? Like Air Foil or Audio Hijack Pro. They use Soundflower for routing audio from apps.

You must have installed it with another app then. This is what you have installed http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/

That's fascinating- not sure what it would have been installed with, but I suppose there is any number of options? A piece of hardware? Reason? ableton? Logic? PT?

I assume it does nothing bad to my system? ha- I have seen it for quite some time now.

No worries. I haven't had any issues with it on either of my systems.
