Default headphone output on Powerbook sounds mono?

I am just wondering if anyone on here has a 12 inch powerbook?...on mine, when I use headphones to listen to a song (cd, mp3, internet, etc) one side sounds good and the other side is at a really low vollume (barely on).....so it almost sounds mono....

so it's really annoying when I'm listening with headphones....I tried different headphones and it still does the same thing.....

The manual says that the headphone output is stereo but the left and right levels are clearly not equal; is there a setting I can change in the powerbook that I can adjust the left and right balance?....

this is driving me nuts , any help would be appreciated, thanks

You can try your sound preferences under system preferences and make sure your output is panned to center. If that doesn't solve it, then you probably have a defective headphone jack perhaps with just a bad connection or something, and you should head over to your nearest apple reseller to have them check it out.

The defective jack is more likely the cause...
If you visit the Apple Support Forums, under PowerBook, you'll see a lot of this...

Lexicon5 YOU ROCK!!!......You were exactly right!.....I have never been to the system preferences; so for some strange reason, it was defaulted from the factory as panned to the right?...I have never head of such a thing?.....

thanks again
