Default Best System Configuration when working with movie window

So... kinda beating my head against a brick wall this one...
on my TDM system (7.3.1.) i import a movie into the session, and begin working on it. Inevitably, the session freezes during playback and says "dae cannot play fast enough... try fixing your playback buffer" or something to that effect...
I HAVE GONE THROUGH EVERY POSSIBLE SETTING IN THE PLAYBACK ENGINE AND I STILL GET THE SAME PROBLEM!!!
So my qeustion: anyone know the best way to set your playback engine up for video playback/ mixing where you can get in multi tracks AND not have freezing issues?

Can you specify your system?

Since upgrading to PT HD running 7.3x on MacPro we doesn't have any problem playing the video with any (almost) size and codec on second monitor.

When we want to play it with Canopus ADVC-110 (DV via firewire out for TV or projector) as have stated in here DUC many times--we have to convert the movie to DV codec though.

Good luck and have fun.

We have run into these issues many times, and have found that keeping the video data rate reasonable - say 6-10mbps, allows enough bandwidth for PT's run with firewire 1 drives. You may find that you have to re-render video clips using say Quicktime Pro.

Often, Avid editors are working with non-compressed video, and don't check export options for Quicktime. We've also seen clips coming at us with non-standard frame rates, creating nag screens from ProTools indicating non-matching frame rates. You can try various renderings to see how high a data rate you can go, without affecting ProTools operation. Generally its not necessary to run video at broadcast quality while working on audio in PT's. Good luck -

Hi there,
is there any way to work with Pro Tools LE 7.3.1 on an external TV? I've tried to configure my pro tools with an Avid Mojo, but i dont see any option(in pro tools setup) to display the preview video thru the mojo device. Will be very gratefull for any replies!

for the LE announcement of 7.4

Quote:
Pro Tools LE 7.4 software also adds support for Windows Vista Ultimate and Business (32-bit) systems. And new support for Avid Mojo® SDI brings Pro Tools LE systems into the Avid® post-production workflow, allowing you to benefit from the great picture quality, easy navigation, and efficiency of Avid video right in the Pro Tools timeline.
