My Pc suddenly shuts down...!!!

Hi.

I have this digi 001 with a pentium III at 933 mhz, 512 ram, hd maxtor with 40 gigabytes for audio files 7200 rpm., and a samsung hd with 20 gigabytes for system files. mother board intel 850 eeaII.

Sometimes when i try to open any session of protools it happens that the computer suddenly shuts down, exactly it turns itself off!! if somebody knows the reason that make this thing happen and could help me out with this, i'd really appreciate that.

If it's been running fine for a while, have you added or deleted anything significant recently?

Wha are you running on - Win 98SE or WinME?

is it shutting down or restarting?

If it's restarting you have a problem with your ram. Search the DUC for "random restart"

i'm running win98SE, and the mother board is intel 815 EEAII.

well, it actually shuts down, not restart. i have to turn it on again, i´ts very strange, isn´t it?

any tip you can spare with me, i´d appreciate.

another thing:

this has been happening since the beginning, i installed a cd burner acer about a week ago and nothing else, but this problem exists before. i had to reinstall the whole system again a few days ago...
might it be something concerning to too fragmented hd's? somebody told me that...

This is often caused my mis-matched RAM or too small of a power supply. Since you've made no RAM changes, could be your CD writer was the last straw/too much load for your PS.
Just a thought.
