Apple today announced new products. Info will be more complete throughout the day.
New Imacs are much thinner, no optical drive, edge to edge glass, Ivy Bridge processors, up to 32gb ram (which means they will really take 64 from OWC). Also feature "Fusion Drive" option, a hybrid flash and traditional drive. 21" ships in November, 27" in December. Also, new Mac Mini's. Server version comes standard with two 1 TB drives. And a 13" Retina Macbook Pro starting at $1699. And, the new Ipad Mini, which may be a more affordable way to use Apps like Neyrinck Mix Control. |

Apparently they've also upgraded the regular Ipad and it is now the 4th generation Ipad, mainly faster graphics and stuff.
Also, of interest, from what I can see, the new Imac no longer has the option of 2 internal hard drives. Your choice is one traditional, or one flash based, or their hybrid "fusion" drive. It still has an SD card slot on that back, maybe that could be used somehow. We'll have to wait and see if OWC opens one up and finds any extra hookups for another hard drive. Also, regarding the Mac Mini, now the mid-priced non-server $799 model also offers a Quad core I7 (these are the new Ivy bridge processors, I believe), not just the server model. And, all three Mac Mini models now use the Intel 4000 graphics, so there's not an option for a discrete graphics card (unless I'm misunderstanding this). |

I am interested in buying the new iMAC ... However what do you think would be the optimum specs (Storage Wise) for a Pro Tools Setup ??
1: Flash Storage + External Drive for recording Audio (could be USB3.0 or Thunderbolt Drive) 2: Fusion Drive + External Drive For Samples & Recording Audio |

I would be pretty upset if I were a Mac Pro user waiting for an upgrade. They are getting outdated and no signs of new systems??? This is not good news for these users.

I think there was a small spec bump some months ago, but i think its been over 2 years since something major has happened. Looks like Apple's main focus is on the iphone/ipad users. Thats where the money is these days. |

Yeah there was but it was really negligible. They said somewhere in 2013, so waiting is the game.

I would never have thought that before, but it is a considerable alternative to the MacPros. I wouldn't have given it a try if it had been certain, that a new MacPro generation is going to be released in the near future. But now I'm glad I did. Have got a stable and incredibly potent machine for a ridiculously small buck (in comparison), now. Not looking back. Goodbye overpriced Apple hardware, and happy times in consumer-land.

(Hooked on you) Nice job! And a question for everyone here: We need a new mac asap as our mac pro is a v.1.1 with dual core processors and it is only 4 cores to use so we need something way better fast!? Do we buy a new macbook pro 2012 or a used one with more specs? Or a Retina pro for 2999 bux that some ppl here says is the "best computer in the world" .. ? Any ideas? Chris

Speculation points to 1st quarter for new Mac Pros if you can wait that long. Otherwise, there is always the 'hackintosh' route that I, and several others here have gone... and may never come back. ![]() I do empathize with those still running a 1,1 though. Apple's neglect is showing, and it's not helping their former image as a company committed to products that cater to the creative professional.
