All the different versions of PT can make it confusing for a first time buyer. I know I was there not long ago. But for $99 getting a foot in the door of the PT world is a great marketing ploy.

Maybe I can convince some buddies using Cubase and Logic to get this. Then we can exchange files in Pro Tools format more easily! But you only need to stump up $199 for Logic Express and although no hardware is included, it's not nearly so limited.

I wish, or hope, that Digidesign decision-makers are reading threads on forums like Gearslutz. For example, there is a thread from a PTLE user asking whether others think he should switch to Sonar. Note the competition: between PTLE and Sonar (or Cubase, etc.). The reasons are usually delay compensation and track count. Rarely is it freeze, or a drum grid, or PT's real-time bounce.

More importantly, the decision is not between PTLE and PTHD. You don't want users leaving due to limitations meant to drive them to a more expensive product. Better to keep the users.

The other concerns seem to be stability and performance.

If you read, for example, the Sonar forum, the complaint, with longtime users bailing, is a long-standing bug. Be glad you don't have that problem.

Stability, performance, delay compensation, and a userbase that appreciates and will pay for updates if that's what's there. Pretty good scenario, actually.
