bass guitar sim plug
is there such a thing? Not amp, but the bass itself.
I'd like to augment a P bass direct with a Hagstrom H8 or a Harmony H22.

Re: bass guitar sim plug
Toontrack and IK Multimedia make 2 very good bass sim instrument plugins. Not sure either will offer such obscure bass samples. You might also try other "trickery". My favorite thing to do is send the DI'd bass to a mono AUX track with IK's Amplitube B-15 bass amp with an overdrive stompbox and blend that to taste. Another option if your P-bass has round-wound strings would be to throw on some tape-wound flat-wound strings and roll the tone knob back for a much "woolier" tone(especially if you add some grit with a distortion plugin like Amplitube or SansAmp). A transient shaper plugin can also soften the attack to mimic a hollow body instrument's softer attack

Re: bass guitar sim plug
You could use the Audio-to-MIDI functionality to drag your (Audio) bass track to a MIDI track to interpret the part/notes (you'll probably need to edit the result), and then assign that to one of the many Bass VIs out there - EZ Bassist, Trillian, the Scarabee basses for Kontakt...
You could also TRY (I've only sued it for guitar) Blue Cat Audio's Re-Guitar or Axiom plugins, which have a "pickup replacer" feature.

Re: bass guitar sim plug
Probably easier in the long run to find a decent bass player on SoundBetter, BeatConnect, AirGigs etc with an H8 or H22 or ... and have them drop the part.
I might try EZ as I'm impressed with the Drummer. I'm looking for easy not science. Thanks for the ideas.
