I'm not quite sure I'd want to jump ship, because something may come on the horizon in terms of x64 compatibility (64 bit OSs).

FWIW, it has yet to be mentioned that you can run Windows on the Intel Macs. I haven't but it's possible via bootcamp, at least with XP. Vista may be different. Just looked. It supports 32-bit versions of XP or Vista. Just a thought.

The Dverb2 test is a standardized test ... what is the best Mac/LE Dverb2 number to date? (The test must be done exactly as specified HERE to be meaningful as a comparison.) Thanks.
Can anyone answer my question? Is there another Mac/LE thread that answers it?

The RAM limitation is not based on the OS being 32-bit vs 64-bit. It is a limitation that is posed by Microsoft:
XP - 4GB RAM
2k Adv Server - 8GB RAM
2k3 Server Enterprise - 32GB RAM

The list goes on but all of these are 32-bit OSs.

Last time I check the Macs are currently 64-bit systems...

Usually Microsoft ups the memory limitations as they introduce newer OSs and as deemed necessary for runing the latest and greates software applications.

Awesome. So, Macs are 64 bit OSs and can run more than the 4GB RAM limitations of Windows. What, then, is the current highest Mac/LE Dverb2 count?

Hold on there cowboy...
Macs have RAM limitations as well. Mostly based on the type (H.W.) you buy. For example miniMac is limited to 2GB, iMac 4GB, and you can find the rest at http://apple.com

Looks like Mac Pro is 64-bit. Runs both 32 and 64 bit apps.

Who knows what the actual dVerb count is? If you put a bundle on the a MacPro with quad Xeons (Damn Xeons, same processor used in High End Wintel Servers). I don't think you will care what the dVerb count is, will not be an issue.

The more that I think about it... 8 CPU cores, WOW! I wonder how much DSP is on a TDM or HD card? Would love to compare LE with an 2 quad core Xeons against a TDM system. Are the lines getting blurred?

Anyone?

You would not be able to do a fair comparison because PTLE is so crippled. Don't you think it's odd that 32 tracks will max out your cpu, but if you upgrade to the DV production toolkit you magically have more headroom? It is a business imposed ceiling. You'd be better off testing a pt hd machine against Logic that will actually use all 8 cores. Like I said before dverb does not matter because you won't use all the power in a real world situation...Unless you are using Logic or Cubase, etc

I have too much money invested in protools to switch. If I need more than 32, I will pony up for the extra voice count.

Wow. Did you follow the "official" Dverb2 testing procedures? What buffer setting? How long did you record the tone for? What happened when you tried the 456th? Anybody else got a Mac number like that? Is this a fluke or for real? What Dverb2 count with OSX? Thanx for the replies.

I switched to a Mac last December and I love it I realize that every time I tell people about my Mac vs. PC experience, I start to sound like the Apple commercials. It really is better, faster, more reliable, much easier to use, better looking, cooler, and more girls talk to me when I'm sitting in a coffee shop with my aluminum Macbook Pro out.

Digi, please, please, please release PT LE for Leopard soon!!! The above will only keep my going for so long - the girls part a little longer.
