Default Studiomaster mixdown 16:8:2?

Hi,

I am considering purchasing this desk, and have been trying to find out some info abouut it.

I have been advised to only get the desk if it from before RSD took over the company

The seller tells me it is about 10 years old,and
hasn't been used for the last 4 years, but was faultless when last used.

I THINK there might be an older 16:8:2 studiomaster desk(not the mixdown) which
was definitely pre RSD.

Does anyone have any experience of these desks and any info on the history of studiomaster? - I have tried a few searches on the net but am confused as to which model is which.
I am aiming to use the desk with a Digi 001.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers

BD

P.S. Having a mostly Digital home setup I am pretty clueless as to all the things to look for when checking out a desk, so any pointers would be very helpful.
Also how much will i expect to pay(£) to get the desk serviced?

I am stil a bit confused-

the desk is advertised as a studiomaster mixdown 18:8:2

I don't think this is either the mixdown classic 8 or the old 16:8:2 pictured on the above site.

Can anyone help enlighten me here?

Thanks

Older Studiosmasher consoles are noisey, and not much use in modern recording.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for your reply, Where
I am not too bothered about a little noise
but have heard favourable things about the EQ for a cheap old desk like this

It depends how noisy they are I suppose though...

I hate Behringer, and IMHO you'd be better off with one than the studiosmasher.

Hope this is helpful.

I have a studio master 16 -4-2 that is about 25 years old. It is the hub of my studio system ie everything runs through it. This board has been roxk solid for me. I find the eq fairly musical. By modern standards it is a bit noisey but whether that matters to you is related to what you are recordng.
It is very forgiving re levels but it does suffer from signifcant cross talk. I have always looked at it as kind of a swiss army knife desk.. How much is it for sale for?

If i were to replace it I'd probably look at an Allen and Heath

BTW
Check that all the sends work.

The desk is £255
Finally found out,
Its a mixdown 16:8:16

I am interested in why you would choose an A+H mixer over the studiomaster, and if there is an affordable A+H alternative to the studiomaster, if it is signifigantly better

Thanks
