Default Blue Screen of Death on Startup (plz HELP urgent)

Hey guys, I ran a few searches for this, and it doesn't appear as though the question has been answered, so here it is:
-I have a Dell Dimension 4500 (desktop).
-Running WinXp Home Edition.
-256 RAM
-Service Pack 2
It's a P4 processor, and it's about three years old.

I recently got ahold of a Digi001, and I decided to install it. Unfortunately the CD it came with was 5.1 for Win98, so I downloaded Protools 5.3.1 for free from this website. I installed it, and restarted, and then everything broke down. Basically the computer started up, the winxp logo page came up, then I got a blue screen of death which lasts all of two seconds. It says something about a page, then that windows didn't start because of preventing damage? I didn't really have much time to read it unfortunately.
The big prob is that now my WindowsXP won't start at all, it keeps getting to that blue screen then restarting. I tried loading it in Safe Mode, but I get the same problem, BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

I really would appreciate any help I can get, as the computer has most of my work/school data on there.

So whatever info you guys can give I'd appreciate. Actually, I'm so desperate right now that if you could just figure out a way to get my windows to start again, I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks,
Rami

Right. Update my pace drivers. Any idea how to do that when I can't get Windows to start, not even in safe mode?

Sorry, it's late for me, and I didn't read your entire post. Saw blue screen and went for the stock answer.

Have you tried removing the 001 card?
Have you tried making sure that everything is seated properly?

You did do a backup of your system before installing, right?

No, Yes, and No.
You, my friend, are a genius. I pulled the PCI card out, and it loaded my windows. I'm going to create a restore point right now just in case something happens, then I'm going to install the Pace Drivers (where do I get those btw if it's not too much trouble to ask?).

Thanks a million!!!

Current Pace drivers are available here.

Your problem might be a whole lot bigger than that though. If you have similar troubles when reinstalling, you should go through all of the steps in the General Troubleshooting thread, including posting system details

You may also want to consider doing the Upgrade to 6.4 as it was the first version of PT qualified for 6.4.

Alright, I installed Protools 6.4 and there are no more blue screens of death. The PC starts up just fine, no crashing or any of that good stuff. The problem now is that Protools is not detecting my Digi 001/PCI card. When I check for it in the COntrol Panel, it's under Other Devices as a Multimedia Controller, with a question mark next to it. Also, the ProTools installer couldn't detect it for the driver install, so of course there is no driver installed for it. So, any ideas? I'm thinking if there was a standalone driver for the Rack/Card, I could install that and see if things start working. Maybe the PACE drivers? I haven't updated those...

ANyway, hook me up guys, so far your help has been invaluable...

You definitely need to uninstall this. I had problems with this way back when I had the 001.

You're also going to need more RAM and another hard drive dedicated for audio, but those don't have anything to do with your current problem.

The 001 needs to live on it's own IRQ. Try moving the card to a different slot. Also try disabling the parallel and serial ports from the BIOS to free up IRQ.

There is no standalone driver; the driver is included/installed with the software.

FANTASTIC! SPKGuitar, you are once again my hero. I disabled the Creative Drivers, reinstalled PROtools and everything went well. I started it up, and it got to the authorization code scree, and now I'm stumped. I input my PN 464035406-00 REV A 04/04 number (digits were changed to keep my code private , located on the pdf file included with PRotools, and it doesn't work. What am I missing? Am I supposed to put other numbers/letters? Take out spaces? etc

Help me again plz...

So, um... never mind. I found it. Thanks again you guys, this has been great. This week I'll be upgrading my RAM, and then if I still have trouble, I'll be back. Peace, vinegar, and onions.
