Unhappy Help with recording please

Hi, I am new to pro tools, just got it today I need some help with
recording to an instrumental track. I wanted to record a Christmas Cd
so I found some instrumentals. I read the manual and checked the forums
AND YOU TUBE but couldn't find an exact answer to my problem.

Here is the issue.

I imported the instrumental into pro tools, I can play the instrumental fine
I hear it on my headset no problem. I can hear myself as well, through my
mic, all is well.

When I go to record the music does't play. I can hear myself through the headsets, and it actually records me talking but the music doesn't play. So
I cannot record.

I did what the manual said, created a new track, 1 mono, audio....
Made sure that the new tracks channel strip was set too mono 1
I clicked the record enable button, when I sing into the mic it picks me up I can hear myself in the headsets, then I press record and play and NO MUSIC....

I am sorry if this is simple, but I am missing something somewhere, I have tired so many times but I just don't know what I am doing wrong. SO if you wouldn't mind PLEASE HELP.

Thank you.
