Error message during playback???
Can someone help and tell me why this message keeps popping up during playback in protools 8.0.5? Whut does the mean?
"DAE can't get audio from the drive(s) fast enough. Your drive may be to slow or fragmented, or a FireWire drive could be having trouble due to extra FireWire bandwidth or CPU load. (-9073). I am lost here, dnt understand????

Re: Error message during playback???
What drive are you recording to and how is it connected? How full is the drive?

Re: Error message during playback???
I have a c: system drive and d:drive for audio and that is the drive I record on. The d: drive is a 761gb drive and only 10gb of space has been used so far as for the c:drive the capacity is 149gb and 101gb of free space is available.
I'm using a 003 rack which is connected to the internal FireWire port and a duende mini which is connected to FireWire port that I added to the CPU.

Ugh? You really need to get Sandra installed on your PC.
We need Sandra to know the manufacturer/models of the drives, The RPM specs, controller info, etc. if nothing else you should provide those manually. Are any if the disks FW? If so what controller chipset is in the FW disk? it needs to be Oxford. What chipset is in the FW controllers they need to be manufactured by TI What are the playback engine settings. You should read the "Help Us Help a You" link at the top of this page which talks more about providing a helpful level of information about problems. Darryl |

Your disk setup is simply not correct for Pro Tools.
You have a fat 32 drive--cannot use that for sessions. Then you have a single drive partitioned as a system drive and another partition--you cannot use either of those partitions for sessions since the operating system itself puts IO demands on the drive. And trying to record to a separate disk partition on a system drive is actually worse than just trying to just record to the system partition itself since the disk heads now have to seek further between partitions. You need another disk drive--a *separate* disk drive formatted NTFS to put your session files on. WD Black like you have for your system drive are great. You could reformat the other drive to NTFS but that "green drive" is not really a 7200 RPM drive, regardless of what B.S. marketing claims you see in advertising (or the Sandra report). You can read the litany of problems on DUC with similar native 5400 rpm "but almost as fast as 7200 rpm" green drives. And besides its USB which is often less than great. Go get another WD Black SATA drive. Darryl |

Re: Error message during playback???
Is the Seagate Barracuda any good for Pro Tools instead of the WD Black?

Re: Error message during playback???
Should be fine. Most any drive that is 7200 rpm(or faster), 16 meg cache(or larger) and no "green" drives allowed
