Default midi stopped working after upgrade

so i recently upgraded from PT9 MP to PT11. i use a fasttrack pro as my interface. i use a macbook pro with lion installed... im having issues with my midi setup now. i use an Alesis QX25, hooked up MIDI out (on the keyboard) to MIDI in on my interface. i opened an instrument track to create a simple drum track to record over and opened structure free (studio drums). the problem im having is that when i click the notes on my screen, i can hear the sound. when i play my controller, i cant hear squat.. i tried opening up a midi track (input: all, output: Structure free port 1 - channel A) and i can see a signal in the meter but still no sound output. i tried record enabling the track. still no sound. i have a prewritten midi region, and that plays sound just fine (on both instrument and midi tracks). ive gone over the midi setup several times now and cant find whats wrong. i feel stupid, but what am i missing?? it used to work perfectly fine in PT9 MP... i only have access to internet on my phone right now, so installing drivers has to be a last resort because i have to drive 15 miles into town to dunkin donuts and sit their for an hour or so while waiting for a download to finish. though any help will be appreciated

What is the default MIDI thru instrument set for in MIDI Preferences? I've noticed that's been a gotcha for a couple of others with the upgrade.

ah-HA! thank you! it was on "none" so i switched to "first selected MIDI track" and it started working. whats the difference between that one and my interface's 16 channels? but again thanks a bunch!
