Default Is a shock mount case necessary?

I am putting together a mobile recording rig and I am going to have my computer in a rack case. Would a shock mount rack case really help protect the computer much more? I guess I am just worried about the hard drives being moved around. Would you spend a little extra on a shock mount case or would you go with a cheaper non shock mount case? It will only be me moving the gear so I know it will be taken care of.

I always ask myself what my work is worth and go from there. Even when u r moving yourself u can have an accidental drop. The real answer to the question is a personal one - I know I'd hate to lose work that my heart and soul is in!

For a rack mounted computer, I would 100% always get a shock mount, personally. Especially if there are spinning drives in there. If you run 100% SSD, then you have less to worry about, but as was said... It's all about investing in your own value.

If you feel spending that little extra just to be safe is valid, do it.

Knowing how many computer issues happen from just moving a computer from room to room, I would also vote for the shock mounted rack. Cards get unseated, drives get bounced around......anything you can do to ease that stress on the hardware is a good thing Some info on the actual computer might help here as well. Consider, if you will be using a PC, I would consider a SATA drive cage for easy drive swaps. I would also have a foam-lined drawer or case to carry a spare system drive(clone what you have) and an extra recording drive(I try to use all internal drives and leave FW and USB for transfers and backups only).

And BTW, having a UPS in the bottom of the case would NEVER be a bad idea.....
