Catastrophic Aux I/O issues since Sonoma upgrade
I recently upgraded the OS in both my home and office studio computers from Monterey to Sonoma 14.7.1. Both machines are M1 Macs running Pro Tools Ultimate 2024.10.1. Studio interface is a MTRX Studio/DADmom, home is an RME Fireface II. All drivers/firmware are up to date.
Since the upgrade, I’m having huge problems with remotes session as any audio routed into our out of Aux I/O is intermittently distorted, glitchy, or altogether not there. Sometimes switching things up in the playback engine box will bring a brief respite, but there is not one thing particular thing that fixes it and the issues always eventually come back. I’ve had to switch clients in mid-session from Zoom, to Louper, to Google Meet () to try and resolve the problem. Sometimes a remote platform switch temporarily fixes the issue, sometimes not. The solution for me was to go back to Source-Nexus (now subscription based, sadly), the way I used to route audio in and out of Pro Tools, and everything is fine again. I will be adjusting my template accordingly. I had been using aux I/O without issues for well over a year in Monterey, but it is now completely unusable to me. Wondering if anybody else has experienced anything similar, or has any ideas thoughts on a possible solution.

Just an FYI
We're using AUX I/O - PT Audio Bridge 2A As input to Source-Live for client spot/reviews No problems here. M1 Studio Ultra Sonoma 14.7.1 MTRX Studio PT2024.10.1 |

Re: Catastrophic Aux I/O issues since Sonoma upgrade
Just a stab in the dark, have you noticed issues happening when you get an email or notification? Could it be that annoying bug where if your notifications are playing out the same output as your pro tools it wreaks havoc?

Have you tried FaceTime? If doesn’t need Aux I/O when PT is screen shared. Mac OS automatically picks up the output.

Re: Catastrophic Aux I/O issues since Sonoma upgrade
Did you reinstall pro tools after upgrading your OS? If not, you should definitely do this.
Do you have any software from Rogue Amoeba installed? Such as Loopback. If so, completely remove it. |

Second the hint about Amoeba. I sometimes get this odd cracking from SoundSource that only stops when I quit it. Most of the time it works fine but once in a while it crackles until I restart the machine.

In my experience also Sonarworks Sound-IDis not compatible with latest Pro Tools, when you are using Aux-in/out in a session.

Re: Catastrophic Aux I/O issues since Sonoma upgrade
Thanks all. I did do a complete uninstall/re-install of Pro Tools and all its preferences after this all started. No Rogue Amoeba or Sonarworks software on either machine. System audio/notifications not routed through Pro Tools.
Though I normally use PT Audio Bridge 2A in my input, I’ve routed through other available audio bridges with the same result. I’m able to recreate the problem in a fresh, brand new session with no other tracks or plugins active. I’m not sure what else to do but write aux i/o out of my life for now.

Re: Catastrophic Aux I/O issues since Sonoma upgrade
I had the same problem. I tried everything I could possibly think of. I ended up using Source Nexus as well. It costs money, but I never have issues. I could never get Aux IO to work without crackles or pops, with both Monterrey or Sonoma.

Re: Catastrophic Aux I/O issues since Sonoma upgrade
Sorry to report that I'm also having issues with Aux I/O in Sonoma - was perfectly stable in Ventura; problems started immediately after the Sonoma upgrade. Tearing, distortion, etc. Seems clear there's something wrong here. I guess I'll have to go to Source/Nexus for stability.
