Default Buffer size/latency problem...

Hi,

I am running PT8 on a Power Mac G5 1,8 Ghz with 3,5 GB RAM.
I am recording through a Mbox 2 Mini.

My problem is that my buffer size needs to be very high if I am using software instruments, which makes it impossible to record anything.

For example if I have EZdrummer on 1 track, and a bass from the Xpand2 pack, I cannot record unless i set the buffer size to 512.

If I want to record more tracks it must be even higher :-(

Will it change anything if I buy a Digi002 or 003?

Or do the software instruments only use the power from the Mac?

I really hope that someone can help me...

Best Regards
Mike

002/003 will not help.

I think you should be getting better performance from a 1.8 Ghz G5.

Are you recording to a separate hard drive?

Are you positive that all your plugins are up to date?

You can record the Instrument tracks to audio tracks (and then disable the Instrument tracks/remove the plugins), to conserve CPU cycles.

I suggest looking through the troubleshooting thread and trying all the things that can be done to optimize your system.

Hi again,

Actually I think that my audio drive is a partition...Maybe I should try to install a new harddrive.

All my software instruments are updated.

Recording to an audiotrack is a good solution. But still a bit difficult.

But do you know if the Digi002 will change anything for me?
Or will it be the same as Mbox 2 mini.

Thank you
Mike

It might increase your performance slightly, as firewire seems to be better than USB, but you shouldn't expect too much from it.

First of all you should check if you've got a separate harddrive for your audio. PT gets better performance with this.

I have to admit, I also don't understand why a separate HD is needed to increase VI performance, but it's just the way it is with PT...
