Default MTRX Studio with Protools 2022.10 broken

Just a heads up.

Donīt know if itīs only me (already sent a ticket), but updated Protools and HD driver to 2022.10 versions and now I canīt use MTRX Studio anymore. Protools doesnīt see the MTRX Studio at all. Everything worked nice and dandy minutes before the update (2022.9.) Yeah, tried all the usual suspects - trashing pref. uninstalled/installed everything, updated MTRX Studio to latest firmware and nothing worked. So, uninstalled all AVID again and installed the previous Protools / HD driver and now everything works again..

running BigSur/Native/MTRX Studio

Greetings,

Just to be clear. Pro Tools doesn't exactly handshake with MTRX Studio. It communicates to the engine card -> either HDX, HDN or HDNTB, which in turn looks for a DigiLink interface connected to initialize the appropriate playback engine.

If you are having trouble communicating it's likely the HD driver, which I would recommend reviewing the following knowledge base article:

As always, ensure that you are running current software and firmware for your MTRX device:

DADman = 5.6.5.1
MTRX Studio = 1.1.1.5

Hi Jeff,

.. and thank you for your quick reply! I uninstalled/installed the HD driver bunch of times and now everything is ok again. The last thing I did was that I uninstalled everything and did a clean install of 2022.10. What was different to previous was that I used the restart button on the (HD driver) installer instead of the one found on System Preferences / Security Privacy window after allowing the system extention access. :)

Hi Jonne, I have spent hours with Avid support with same issues with my HD Native/MTRXStudio. (Its still not fixed so trying to have a working studio using Dante DVS)

Support did a clean install of the HD driver but NOT, as you did, a clean install of PT itself. I will try that.

Question: did you wipe your Mac as well and start with clean Mac?

Frankly, I donīt know why it started working. I didnīt wipe my mac, just wiped everything from Avid:

1) Turned MTRX Studio totally off (no standby)
2) Ran all the uninstallers and gave permission to the AVID programs to run on System Preferences/Security & Privacy window when asked. (HD driver.command, Protools.command, Audio Bridge.command, Protools.command (deleted everything), Cloud Client Services Uninstaller, Avid Link Uninstaller)
3) turned computer off/on
4) reinstalled everything (Avid Link first, then all 2022.10 via Avid Link)
5) Turned MTRX Studio on

.. then it started working (donīt really know why, as I already had done this process once before.) I had previously already updated MTRX Studio (flash) and DADman software to the latest versions. Heh, the only thing I really did differently was that I restarted from the installer instead from the Security & Privacy window - which doesnīt make any difference of course. Gotta love ADP. :)

Iīm frankly going to switch my MTRX Studio to something else. Even that it says Protools on the MTRX front panel it really could be any other interface dropped in there (albeit you need an AVID sync box) -> You need external software to control the MTRX studio, you donīt get realtime sample accurate sync with HW inserts, etc.. Basically Iīm just tired being at the mercy of the HD driver that is costing premium and (horrible) Avid Link that screws up every 3rd-4th update (same with Sibelius). If I need Protools, will just leave the AVID 16x16 IO box as I never had any hassle with it (no Dante though.) Sorry about venting. :) I also used couple of days for this..

Well I went through the steps below and no luck whatsoever. The drivers do not load successfully, and though Dadman sees the MTRX Studio OK, the digilink indicator in Dadman has the red triangle indicating HD Native TB unit is not communicating with MTRX studio.

Avid support have given me an RMA to send the HD Native TB unit back to them to check if that's the problem, but that means I do not have a working studio.

There is not one HD Native unit in stock in the whole of the UK to even order a replacement! (Avid pls tell me I'm wrong?)

Sure, I know, why don't I have a back up - well an order for UAD Apollo 16 to follow. I hope to god its promise of 1.1ms latency is true. And if it is I will ditch HD Native/MTRX Studio....lovely idea, but too many weak points in the chain..
