Talking Pro Tools Video Editing Application?

Wouldn't it be awesome if protools developed into a video editing application as well. Been demoing FCP X and hate it. Probably the worst thought out piece of crap software that I've ever used.

I'd rather use iMovie than FCPx. At our place we are moving more and more towards Premiere and Media Composer. The bugger is every video editing software has shortcomings and bugs in different areas that you can't really rely on one for everything.

Yeah i was under the assumption that all of these code rewrites were going to eventually bring a tighter integration between MC and PT.

No. The end product would suffer.

It would depend on how well it was implimented. Theres no real reason for the either product to suffer. In the world of Post this would be a huge gain. In the world of audio not so much. It would also be a boon to the Voiceover and AV Production markets and make transfering media and work in progress between projects and facilities a great deal easier. I do agree that the potential for screwing things up is very real. But its not a forgone conclusion.

Indeed, Avid's flagship video editing application.

That said, if you are looking for something simple and user friendly I can warmly recommend Sony Vegas. At around $100 for the platinum version it does everything most people need from a video editor, including working with audio in a much more sophisticated way than Media Composer. To put it in perspective, a Media Composer license is $ 2,000 (student license $300). Only for PC though.

I have Media Composer myself and I have to say that it is not super user friendly, but it is and has been the industry standard for a long time. If you are looking to become a pro video editor you do well to learn this program in and out. It's the equivalent of Pro Tools for video.

Though, that said, Final Cut Pro has made significant inroads in recent years. Be aware by the way that Final Cut Pro X is different from Final Cut 7. A lot of FCP users were ticked off by the changes in the program, and while it is technically much more advanced it messed up their workflow in a major way, causing them to revert to 7 or alternative programs. But that is a totally different story.

I use the video editing program ShowBiz to do all my daily video editing. For me, it's a user friendly program for beginners and the advanced editing tools also allows some creativity for professional users. You may want to have a try

Sony Vegas?....erm NO! Received a mock doc 90 min edited on Vegas at the beginning of May. We are still trying to find the media that was used. And handles? Vegas sucks big time. You get what you pay for.
