Default Compact Bug

I often import PTs sessions from many editors, then when finished, compact the final session with 2 second handles. This works fine in PTs 12.6.1 but broke in Ver 12.7 all the way to 2018.1. Several files always become large after compact (approx 5 gigs each) so a 2 gig audio folder becomes 18 gigs etc.

I did one test from audio created ONLY in PT 2018.1 and compact worked as expected.

I expect this could be an issue for anyone importing from PTs 10 sessions etc then trying to compact. It certainly is for me.

2018.1 is the first usable release for me since 12.6.1 but I can't compact sessions unless I go back to 12.6.1.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Mac Pro 5,1 12 core 3.33 Ghz 32 Gigs Ram, Protools HD 12.6.1 and HD 2018.1, Motu Ultra lite mk3, Eucon 3.7 S3 Avid Dock iPad air 2.

What do you mean by "compact"?

This hasn’t been a widely reported issue, but if it happens all the time it should be easy to confirm your results. Create a support case to get it reported and addressed.

I actually didn't know about these options. Had a quick look, and I'll investigate further. I know about thinning sessions for archiving without using too much disk space from the old days. Manually. Actually, I'm reaping the benefits of that these days, as I'm loading up old PT5 sessions, all cleaned up and "compacted", and having fun remixing them.

I suppose I can see the need to "compact", but ... I simply clone the whole session folder to 2 ext drives & move on. Drive space is cheap. Years ago, I used to archive sessions to data DVDs & always be worried about session size.
