PT delays everytime i start recording (about 4 seconds)

Hi,

Can anyone please help with a problem I've never come across before? I'm sure it's something simple.

Everytime I start recording PT freezes for about 4 seconds before it begins recording.
Looking at the transport, play and record flash a few times before recording.
It's the same amount of delay every time.

I have pre-post roll switched off,
I have tried defragging drive
I have tried re-formatting drive
I have no machine control that PT should be waiting for.
I have limited the open-end record allocation to 90mins, so the drive doesn't need to scan for all available space.

System is G5 Dual 2.7ghz
HD 2 Accel
3.5 GB RAM
PT 7.4
External 500GB Firewire Drive for Audio


I'm pulling my hair out over this one as it's slowing me down tremendously.
Any suggestions?? Thank-you kindly.

You probably have countoff turned on.
Select View > Transport > MIDI Controls.
Click on the "2 bars" button

90 min is still a lot of disk to allocate unless you are doing long show recording
