Default 5.1.3 on a G4 dual 1.25ghz anybody?

Hi all,
So i "upgraded" to a dual 1.25ghz non FW800 with the intention to be able to use OS9. There are 2 separate HDs /1 is 9.2,the other one 10.3.9/
Here is the problem. When i start up OS9, although the whole desktop is visible, i can't click on any icons. Upon ctrl+alt+command+esc it asks me if i am sure i want to close the ATI accelerator. Well, when i say yes, it makes things function normally, i.e. being able to click on any file on the desktop.
Now, here is the actual problem. When i start up Pro Tools, it loads fine up until it ells me to turn on my interface and try again. I power up the 888 before i try to open Pro Tools. It seems like it is not detecting the interface at all and i have never had this problem on a single processor or running 6.4.1
Any ideas, anybody with similar problem?

I have the same G4 and initially had problems with it co-operating with a Digi 001 - the G4 wouldn't even power up with the 001 attached! I think there were issues with PCI voltages or somesuch, after a couple of motherboard replacements I ended up taking the G4 to Apple HQ in West London for them to sort it out! I wonder if your problem is related...?

I have it running on the single G4/1.25 with no problem.. Think there was an issue with the second processor. Maybe hide it from OS9..
It's been awhile but wasn't there something in the system folder for that 2nd processor?

i would, if you haven't already start with a base set of extension and also enable the proper Digidesign ones. I forget what actually is enabled but, it is probably in the support archives here. If everything works in OS X then it is more than likely an extension problem in 9

My old PT 24 Mix Rig is still up and working, this is the configuration:

Mac G4 Dual 1.25 GHz (FW 400) + 2 GB RAM + ATTO UL3D
OS X 10.3.9 + PT 6.4.1cs4 + Logic Pro 7.1 or OS 9.2.2 + PT 5.1.3 + Logic Audio 4.8.1 or OS X 10.4.11 + PT LE 7.4cs4 + MBox
PT 24 MIX 4 (1 x MIX Core + 3 x MIX Farm) + 4 x SampleCell II TDM inside 13-slot 32 bit Digidesign PCI Exp. Chassis
888/24 I/O + 2 x 888 I/O + 2 x Unitor 8 mkII

It works rock solid, both in OS 9 and OSX. It is correct you sometimes need a special extension in OS 9 to disable the second CPU, you can find more info here

I would advise to do a clean install of OS 9, because the OS does not start as it should and then do a clean install of PT 5.1.3

Did you install OS9 from the ORIGINAL install disk for this computer? Apparently the only way to make OS9 work on an mdd is with the original install disk that came with an mdd g4. The retail boxed versions of OS9 will not work. There are various posts about this on the apple discussion forums.

Great rig.
Does this mean that you can use one processor when running 5.3.1 & two when running 6.4.1?

Hey John_Toolbox,
No, I wasn't able to. I got the computer off craigslist. It didn't have the original OS9 reboot discs. I have heard about the disable second processor deal too, i just have no idea how. I did also hear hat i have to upgrade the OS ROM file to 9.5.1 which i already did.
At the same time it runs 6.4.1 flawlessly.

Hey Delta,
Unfortunately the file didn't do the trick. Still the same issues.

I suppose so, yes, I don't use my PT 24 MIX rig not that often any more. I work mostly on my other rig with PT|HD 7 Accel (here I can say for sure my G4 is using it's 2 processors without a problem with PT|HD 7.4)
