Default Mbox2 mini - terrible noise problem on Win7 Cubase5 after upgrading to PT8.0.4

After upgrading to Windows7 Ultimate, I updated the ASIO driver for my Mbox2 mini with the PT 7.0.4 upgrade issued a few months ago. I don't actually use PT and never have - I specifically bought my MBox to be used with third-party audio software such as Cubase etc. But since Avid didn't offer any standalone Audio driver upgrade for Win7, I went through the whole proccess of upgrading PT as explained (I'm very sure that I followed all the instructions carefully, including deleting prefs, dbs, and disabling USB power management).
But nevertheless, I still have the exact same problem that I had with the old driver, prior to 7.0.4, from the moment I upgraded to Win7 64bit: When I monitor a track before recording or when I play it seperately in the Track Editor in Cubase 5, it sounds just fine, but the moment anything playbacks normally through the mixer, the sound comes out crackling and very very noisy, thus rendering the whole process of recording music impossible. The noise actually reduces slightly as I choose a higher buffer, but it's still completely unusable throughout the scale of different buffer sizes.
I'm quite sure that it's a driver issue and not a hardware issue, because the Mbox also works and sound fine when I use it to playback directly from Windows Media Player etc.
What should I do? I read posts here from several other people who had the same problem, and tried everything that was offered to them. Nothing helped. Can it be that the new 8.0.4 audio driver still suffers from some crucial bug? I'm very close to giving up on my Mbox altogether, so please please offer anything. Thanks!

(my Sisoftware Sandra report is here in my signature, and it's updated).

Hi I had the same issue, but could resolve by the driver.
ASIO4ALL 2.10 -English
http://asio4all.com/

I also tested on
Ableton Live Lite 8.2.2
and
Propellerhead Record 1.5.1
with the same driver
"Mbox 2 USB Family Drivers v9.0.2.65".
But the noise issue did not occur on those DAWs.
So I guess this is a CUBASE issue ...
