Default An "unable to locate Digidesign hardware" quandry

I was running PT just fine the day before Christmas.

Came back today, and now I am getting the "unable to locate digidesign hardware" error.

Keep in mind, I've not added or changed any plugs ins, hardware, or anything since it's last use. I came back to my computer the same way I left it. Have not added any new plug ins in several months, it had been working fine until now.

After doing a search and reading about this error, I went ahead and:

Double check all my connections. still get error.

Trashed preferences: Still get error

Un-installed and re-installed PT 8.0 from the CD. Still get error.

Downloaded PT 8.03 updates. Still get error.

Updated PACE drivers: Still get error

I shut down, unplugged the firewire cable from 002R unit, and plugged the same firewire cable to connect to spare external hard drive, restarted, and the Cable is able to see and read files on hard drive, so it does not appear to be the cable or firewire port.

On the back of my 002R, the green light does indicate the cable is connected to the computer. However, the red "1394" light on the front panel does not light up.

My Mac is about 6 months old.
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8
Memory: 6 GB

Running leopard (have not upgraded to snow leopard).

Using an 002R, purchased new 4 years ago.

Do a search on "Power Harness." This is a common issue on Digi002/002R interfaces.

Also, just FYI, you need to run the tech utility TWICE per the instructions in order for the plugin versions to show up..

Thank you! I knew there was answer in here somewhere, I just needed the right key word.

Although kind of funny, the 1st 20 or so results for "Power Harness" say "do a search...." LOL

I did find this post:

Here's the skinny on these. For the rack version, you remove all the screws from the top panel and lift it off. Then you can reseat all the connections of the harness. If you have the front toward you, the power supply is on the right side and the harness has 3 connections to reseat. The 002 mixer/controller is different. Turn it over(I like to lay down a folded towel). Unscrew all the screws around the bottom panel. Once you have all the screws out, lift one side(slowly) until you can reach the connector on the power supply(which is bolted to the bottom panel). After you disconnect that side, lay it back down and lift the other side until you can reach in and disconnect that side of the power supply(pay close attention so you can get these connections back on correctly). Now you can lift the bottom panel off and set it aside. The mixer/controller version has 4 connections on the harness(one is to the power supply that you already disconnected). The forth connection is actually pointing down and is under the edge of the midi/firewire PCB(the edge nearest you if the connectors are facing away from you). You may be able to work this connector without any further dis-assembly. If not, you can remove the small screws on the back, around the firewire, RCA and midi ports, and 2 screws thru the other edge of the PCB. Then you can slip the PCB out a bit and turn it over. Work each connector at least 6 times. Wiping the pins with a Q-tip or foam swab(VCR head cleaning swabs) soaked in Deoxit would be a good final step before re-assembly.
I will try this tonight!

THANK YOU!!!! You are a god!!!!

That was the issue!!

It booted right up the 1st time after re-seating the power harass.

I'm so relieved.

Unfortunately, the re-seat doesn't work every time.
