Default Intel Turbo Boost option: "only offline"

At least with my MacBook Pro (and every MBP before it...) Turbo Boost while recording or mixing is a pain (time limited boost, system runs hot/loud/unreliable.) However I have sometimes found value in manually toggling boost on and off for bounces, it can shave minutes off a bounce which adds up during a day.

There should be a "Use for offline processes only" tickbox for Turbo Boost that only enables it for Audiosuite/Freeze/Commit/Bounce (anything else?)

I really should know haha but is there a way of submitting this as a request to Avid?

I recently found switching off Turbo boost improved stability and stopped a lot of crashes I was having.
It doesn't seem to have affected the power of the computer in any noticeable way apart from being more reliable.

It should be an additional option, maybe there are configurations for which you truly want Turbo off at all times. However I've never had issues with Turboing for offline bounces...it's much faster on my laptops and has been for the last decade. But as soon as I'm working I switch it back off again, it is as you describe much more reliable.

I was under the impression that disabling Turbo boost was a recommended system tweak

For 95% of the time, yes. Doing any work, playback, recording, mixing etc, for stability, predictability, heat and noise it is best to leave Turbo off. However it greatly speeds up any offline process, the only trade-off being more heat temporarily. I have never had any issues turning Turbo on for bouncing other than going home earlier.

Am I not explaining something clearly? I feel like a broken record....

I leave turbo boost in the on position, except when recording [Dell XPS 15]. The fan stays on when crunching a lot of data, but not an issue while mixing. Offline bounces are a breeze.

TB off. I run all cores at a constant 5.1GHz (set in bios). Works & no variation or throttling ever.

Makes perfect sense.

Yes you have a desktop with sufficient cooling for these Intel space heaters, this feature is not aimed at you :)

I built my desktop using low-rpm CPU & case fans, fan-less titanium PSU, and no water cooling. It runs very quiet & temps are simply NOT a problem.
