This should be re-visited. The Virus plug was one of the best plug synths. And Access needs some new leadership, as they have nothing new from that team for a LONG time. Someone should eb able to port his code for 2025.

It was a great plugin. If I remember correctly, the reason it sounded as good as the original was because the Virus B hardware synth used the same Motorola DSP chip that was on TDM cards.

Access is now entirely focused on the Kemper Profilers it seems.

Not for PT but "The Usual Suspects" DSP56300 project is amazing. If you have a real Virus and access to the ROM. It is not supported by Access and legally dubious if you don't have the hardware.

They've emulated the DSP so it runs the original code just like the TDM plugin. It is an impressive feat. They've managed to get the Virus and Virus TI along with the Waldorf Microwave XT and MicroQ emulated.

Exactly, and that's why it won't work with AAX unless the developer decides to completely rewrite it but then it might not sound the same anymore.

There is people emulating those Motorola DSPs and the emulator can run the original Virus Eprom files as they are. Not modified at alll!
So what the emulators do is not only hosting the original eprom file but also brings a GUI looking similar to the hardware. Then it saves as AU and VST plugins. No AAX but the MetaPlugin can host any format and is a native AAX plugin.
I think it is a thin line here between right and wrong but the guys are clear with that they will not bring current hardware to software life. So they are working with legacy hardware only. Microwave XT, Virus Ti, NordLead 2X and some more. But theoretically this means all TDM plugins could be hosted in a modern environment…However the interest for legacy Hardware is bigger than legacy audio plugins I believe :)
