Another great thing I just discovered, so I'm taking my hat off for you again, Avid:

With ProTools Intro now allowing you to use local sessions (albeit quite limited in session size) I'm able to install Intro on an old Intel machine which runs Big Sur. This isn't exciting, except for me it is. I've had an ongoing battle with SSL where older iteritation of several of their plugins would not load on M1 nor Monterey. It meant that I was locked out of hundreds of sessions from our past, and we do often go back in and revise them for clients.

Before PT Intro, there was no way for me to gain access to those SSL settings so that I could recreate them with updated iterations of their plugins. Now I can send a session to the older machine, open the session (8 tracks at a time) and at least get screenshots of those settings. This sounds silly but it was actually a big deal for our company.

Thanks, Avid, for saving the day spoiled by SSL!

Couldn’t you just install the regular version of Pro Tools on that Intel Mac?

it is the same install. Version is derived from your license (or lack of it).

I’m aware of that.

My point is, why does Intro allow them to open old sessions? Why couldn’t they have run regular PT on that machine months ago?

If they don’t want to move iLoks around, fair enough. But if I had sessions that I needed access to, I would have been doing that in a heartbeat.

For those on Mac, have a look at Ginger Audio - whether you have 2022.9 or not. They have told me they are working on a Windows version.

Intro is free whereas the regular version (Ultimate in my case) is not. I'd have to transfer the iLok asset from one machine to the other (or move the iLok dongle, which is tough to access on the older machine), but the worst part is that I wouldn't be able to have both machines running PT simultaneously, and that would make moving parameters tougher.

I've tried Room but didn't find any purpose from it. Which app are you referring to and how would it be helpful?

I thought they explained from their website. It's similar to Source-Nexus, but there's a free version and a paid version that's much less than Source-Nexus. All three are virtual routing solutions. Sorry if it doesn't work for you.
