Default How to insert Compressor prior to ProjectMix I/O

Alright everyone, I want to insert a compressor into my signal prior to it going into my ProjectMix. Does anyone have any ideas(Gear)? I know that I can do this inside via protools, but I am concerned about eating up processor power.

I don't have a decent budget(under $1000), what are some options?

One of the safest bets for compressors under a grand is the FMR RNC. It's not meant to be a compressor for a lot of coloration but it is really transparent for taming dynamics. They cost around $200. They are a stereo unit, but not dual mono.

When it comes to compressor with color, the debate is wide open. Listen and see what you like. I personally use the Universal Audio LA610 channel strip. It has a quasi LA2A in it that I love, plus a 610 tube pre as well. It's a around $1300.

Thank you, I really need to know how to run a compressor prior to my signal reaching PT. I have a compressor, I just need to know how to fit it in the chain. Can I use out's 3&4 as sends and then loop them back in to say channel 8? Is this recommended? or am I completley off my rocker?
