Default ProTools 8 LE question

Hi all,
just have a question about the CPU (Rtas) usage.. when going on Setup>Playback Engine and choosing 4 Processors instead 2 Processors, on the "System Usage" window the CPU Rtas usage is doubling... is that normal and why? i've a Intel Core2 QuadCore Q9550 @2,83GHz built on Asus P5QL PRO and 4 GB ram Corsair @1066MHz (2x2Gb)

Thanks in advance

OK, just to summarize: You have a Quadcore 2,83 GHz CPU accompanied by 4 GBs of 1066 MHz RAM. So why do you care about the RTAS usage meter...?

I have a similar system, on the big session I currently have up;

2 processors= 60%
3 processors= 49%
4 processors= 39%

I typically run 3.

More XP users than Vista. Vista nets you less power at this point. Hopefully Win7 will make it better.

The high cpu usage is a know issue with PT 8. According to Digi Support, it has something to do with "blitting" (how the windows are drawn) that is causing the issue. Digi says they're working on a fix but it's "rather invasive" and is taking some time to correct and test. If, because you've got a quad core and plenty of ram, it's not affecting your productivity, wait for a fix and continue on. If it is affecting productivity (like it did me) go back to 7.4 until they have a solid fix for PT 8. It's already been close to 3 mos. since the issue was identified and a solid fix isn't in sight yet. Try a search in the DUC for high cpu usage. You'll come up with a lot of threads since PT 8 was released.
