what H/W to add inputs via ADAT input
Hey all,
I have just gotten an 002R and am wondering what hardware people are using with their Digi equipment to add inputs via the ADAT Litepipe input. Also how does the Digi A/D quality compare with said hardware. I am interested in options under $1K (Alesis AI-3, Frontier Tango24, etc) Basically I am going to be doing live recordings of my band's practices so I will be recording about 13 channels at once and I am trying to figure out what instruments to put on the ADAT channels and which to put on the built-in channels. For all channels I will be using the mic pre's from my Allen&Heath mixer. Thanks for any help you can give... M |

I havnt looked into it myself and honestly dont know much about this, but A guy at the local guitar center told me The digimax is great for adding inputs and he says it hooks up via lightpipe.

Re: what H/W to add inputs via ADAT input
Gear to investigate, starting with cheapest:
Behringer ADA8000 Alesis AI-3 (no mic pre's) Presonus Digimax Focusrite Octopre It's been suggested that the Behringer unit will be a choice piece to modify, and I agree. I suspect the converters won't be great, but probably no worse than what's in an 001 to begin with. I also advise people to get two high-end input channels before getting another 8 mediocre ones. It's probably only drums where you use more than 2 inputs anyway. |

Re: what H/W to add inputs via ADAT input
Just so you know, what I've read about the 002 rack is at 96k you can't use the adat inputs. That really sucks, I know lightpipe can carry only 4 channels at 96K but still that's 4 channels, why didn't digi include this in the 002rack, the actual number of tracks you can record at 96K is lower than 48k, isn't that part of the reason to buy an 002rack instead of an 001, higher sound quality, but if you go for the higher sound quality you can't use as many inputs and all the stuff you bought for your 001 setup like an octo pre or digimax. I'd really like to know why they didn't add in 2 lightpipe inputs so you could use adat inputs at 96K. That is the only thing that is stopping me from buying the 002rack.
