Default Mac OS operating systems downloads Mountain Lion onwards

Hi,

Update!! just found out you need the original installer before you can use any of these updates and combo installers

Apple really like to maske things difficult these days, used to be able to just download the OS and go.

My Macbook air started to update to High Sierra then stopped and wouldn't complete and wouldn't boot back to sierra either so had to wipe and start again. hence the OS dance.

Ive found the direct link to sierra, High Sierra and el capitan installers but thats it i think, without having to order through the apple store...

These links will enable you to download the full installers via the app store, Once downloaded they are stored in the applications folder on your system drive so you can copy/save them first, then run them and install them.
I found it works better to run the installers that are saved in the applications folder, rather than complete the install from the app store, plus you can saved the installers for future. be aware that after installation the installers are removed so save them to a separate partition or drive before running them!!

El Capitan...

Just in case people are not aware you can download the MAC OS updates from here.

From Mountain Lion onwards all downloads are available here...

You can select your country/language as needed!

I thought Apple always required (at least for OSX) having the version of OSX you want updated on the machine before using the combo updaters or other updaters? The key word here is 'updater' - they're not full installers.

When Apple released High Sierra they removed previous installers from one's Store account 'purchased' tab.

Oh yeah - the last link you posted has a whole bunch of updates and stuff and again the key word is 'update' as the only full installer they have is for High Sierra. For every other OSX version it's just updates and not full installers.

You actually have to call them IIRC; you can't get it through the App Store. And there's no open links for downloads.

Actually that is not true at all. You do not need to call them and I have actually done it on 2 of my systems recently. And I never said it was thru the App Store but it is possible and I am not the only one who's done it..
Look in the era of Jobs many of us drank the Koolaid so to speak myself included ( former Apple employee of more than 10 years) but post Jobs they do try to make it difficult and have released inferior OS's among other things. Sorry for the slight rant....

Okay so how do you do it? Everyone I've ever seen talk about it has said you have to call Apple.

Thanks for posting Chris. very useful. I think that latest High Sierra is very important as it addresses the Intel chip flaw.
I usually just buy a USB bootable if i missed out on an OS. Its only a few quid and i know its there (bootable)

If said Monk is David Carradine

Racer's post is the kind that drive me nuts. They talk about a way to do something but won't give you the method they used. If I know how to do something and it's not illegal then I'll give the method I used and hope it helps someone in a similar situation.

I know you have to call Apple; IIRC Darryl Ramm once posted here the number to call.

Hi,

Just to clarify i have manged to download Sierra/ High Sierra and El capitan.

Ive just installed Sierra over El Capitan and now downloading High Sierra. I'll see if downloading High Sierra first will install without failure which it did when installing from the updates facility in the mac.

These links will eventually take you to the app store but will alow you to complete download before installing
