Default Pro Tool HD 10.3.8

Hi there

This question is two fold.

A. I am currently running PT HD 10.3.8 on a 2012 Mac Pro. What is the latest OS that is stable? I am currently running into issues with Mail and Firefox on OS 10.8.5.

B. I am always concerned that the CPU will art some point crap out. I was going to buy a refurbished 2012 Mac Pro with 64 Gigs of ram and downgrade the OS to one that would work with my current licensed PT software as as a backup.

Your thoughts please, based on the fact that this version of PT and plugins does everything I need it to do and more?

I a running the Grey and Blue Sync I/O and Grey and Blue 192 with Accel Card and secondary Farm Card.

Cheers

HD3|accel and blue interfaces. Onlybissue is that uninstaller is not working, but then again that in itself is a non-issue because PT10 is not getting any updates

Thanks again. Are you using this for Post or Music. If Post, are you running video?

I use this machine primarily for editing multiple TV series. Can’t afford any instability issues at this point. Maybe I will purchase a second 2012 MP and this time a 12 core with 64GB Ram. Have that as a backup.

Wonder if I can get Mountain Lion for it and still download the the PT version 10.3.8 installer that I own?

Live FOH mainly, sometimes post with a reference track (without realtime sync)

Have you considered staying with 10.8.5/10.3.8, just for PT, and getting a new current mac for everything non-PT? perhaps a M1 and stay up to date for years to come? They could even share screens. Switch between the two with a click of a button.

This sounds like a wonderful idea. How would I switch screens. Mine are DVI?

Thank you so much.

Most screens nowadays have more than one input and often HDMI, Displayport, minidisplayport and so on, and buttons and menus to select between sources.

I have two displays; one large TV and a 32" calibrated monitor. My mac mini is connected to both and works with PT2020 and everything else. Then I have an old Mac pro 3,1 that I hardly ever use, connected to the 32". It's a couple of clicks on the screen to change inputs, and I can see the old mac on the 32". This also means that the 3,1 is configured to do PT10 only, and this helps with stability also.

You could have a Mini, like me, or it could be one of the apple laptops. Anyway I think the latest M1 macs are one of the best value for money I've ever seen in apple products.

I don't know about DVI, and if you could use an adapter. But the screen should of course have more than one input. Anyway, screens are cheap, at least they can be.

Only things missing are native software support and the number of USB/TB ports is laughable. I can barely manage with two USBC and two USBA and if I didn't have this old Apple TB display that functions as a hub, I would need extra hardware to get along.

But yes, once we wait three years and software is okay, this is still looking good.
