Default Video engine still sucks (repeated unrecoverable errors)

Updated to 12.5 and apparently the video engine still keeps throwing re-initialize video errors. Any of you also experiencing this?

I just realize yesterday that working in 25p instead of 50i was really reducing the problems. It was with a DNxHD 1920x1080 @ 25fps video. The option to switch to 25p is next to the video track, with Output Settings,... Have a try, and tell me.

Probably doesn't help, but every one of my 12.4 video engine problems have gone in 12.5 (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) so no, not seeing that error here.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Kind of bizar they advertise the video engine bugs are fixed while they are not.

Again, all mine are fixed in 12.5, so not that bizarre for me.

could it be your "Black Magic Intensity Pro card" giving this error with 12.5 ?? how does it perform without the card ?? any new drivers for BM card ?? just trying to help a bit ..

video performance is horrible for me in 12.5. everything was more snappy in 12.4 (although still way less responsive than logic), since the update any time i have video in the session i get a big lag, up to about a second, when pressing play, often the play button in the on screen transport flashes a few times before anything happens. it's not a consistent delay, depends on how quick i'm trying to move round the session. Video is on a pci-e SSD too so access speed is not an issue. (i don't have pre-roll on or anything stupid like that either...)

This update is basically made working with video imposible. syncing stuff is just painful

In 12.4 everything was ok, except i could never successfully bounce to quicktime, always got an error, after an extremely long bounce time.

i can open the same video file in logic, everything is super responsive, and i can bounce to quicktime fantastically quickly with no issues.

Indeed, there have been several driver and firmware updates for the blackmagic stuff in the past few months so that's a good thing to check, although their update system tends to yell at you if things aren't up to date. In addition, what kind of PCIe chassis are you using for the blackmagic card?

I haven't had any video issues at all in 12.4 or 12.5 on either of my rigs, one is a 2010 tower with the PCIe blackmagic, the other is a 2013 trash can with the Thunderbolt blackmagic box. I work in feature films so I have video running all day long.

Also what specs are the videos you're getting? Have you tried different codecs?

Default Video engine still sucks

I'm getting exact same behaviour as Mr xy. In 12.4 i switched to AJA express instead of blackmagic intensity which gave 'some' better results. Since 12.5 it sucks bigtime again.
I use Dnxhd36 quicktimes.

what's frustrating is to read so many people trying different cards, drivers , file codecs etc trying to get acceptable performance. I've been there myself.

Meanwhile, i have never had an issue with video and system responsiveness in logic or any other daw for that matter. I can just import a video of seemingly any size/ format and it works, and i can export at the end of the day quickly and without strange error messages.

It PT one has to really nurse the program through the process, I'm personally sick of it.

I'm seeing all sorts of video error messages in 12.5 beyond just the lag i'm gettting, "waiting for video engine to stop" and so forth. WTF avid? I understand it's hard to support all the different hardware iterations around, and yet every other DAW i've used manages without these problems.
