Default How to play back MXF in QT?

Hi,

I was wondering how you Mojo-users take your movies to the mixing stage as a quick reference?
If the stage doesnīt have a Mojo and you need a QT thumbnail for quick adjustments do you transcode the MXF to some more compatible codec? Or is there a QT-component that will play those files back on a non-mojo-system?

I tried installing the AVID QT-codecs but that didnīt help.

Thanks,

frank.

Hi Frank,
What I've done on occasion is make a QT video that references the avid media in avid express pro. Other then that, I think you'll have to export the movie from Pt in dv codec or some other compatible codec.
Thanks,
Brandon

I think you'll have to export the video in whatever format you need. I haven't figured out a way around it yet.

Hi Frank. I have a little different work flow then you. I get AAF's from the production company that have audio and avid dv25 video in the AAF. Before PT 7.2, I used to ask them for QT's. They would give me a QT shell which referenced the avid DV25 media instead of rendering a self contained QT video. It saved them hours of rendering. I think you can only do this from an avid. This should be a function in PT.

Those I tried. Doesnīt work with MXF-media recorded with a Mojo into PT. Did those work for you? Whatīs the secret?

My question is how I can play back MXF-media that has been recorded to the Mojo with PT. I know how to play back original AVID-media-files in QT. But the AVID codecs donīt seem to support the files PT creates. Itīs strange since the files digitized with the exact same Mojo in the AVID are played back fine by QT.

Hi Frank,
I was just trying to help. I thought you'd be able to throw the MXF files into an avid and make a reference for the stage in no time. If avid have t render the video again, I guess the video rendering should just be done in PT.
Peace,
Brandon

Sorry Brandon, I didnīt want to sound harsh at all. I thought you misunderstood my original question. Sometimes I wish english was my native language ;-)

Thanks for the infos. Iīm trying to compare the ups and downs of mojo versus an outboard VTR (non-linear) workflow-wise. With 7.2 the mojo seems to have gained some time on the race-track.
If only those MXF files could be played back on a non-mojo system directly. That would make the system quite unbeatable.
